Urban envoirnment. Diversity in the city
I
I working away slowly at the project. Finished a piece which I can't find in my pictures. I choose four photographs using people from different countries that are living in limerick city. One from Nigeria, Limerick, Poland and Pakistan. Its an interactive piece where the viewer can changes the faces and hopefully enjoy the piece. Will put photo up soon.
Also after looking up Kristian Bodanski.. (think that's spelt right), I absolutely love his work and got some inspiration from him... Yesterday I took a few more photographs and photocopied them on to acetate. I then got a piece of muslin and hung it on the wall. I then used the projector to get the images onto the cloth. I played around and had great fun .. putting different faces together and I was very happy with the photos. Again will try and put them up.

New Plan....
I've decided tokeep a a diary of the work I do each day/week to remind me that I'm actually doing a bit of work... Monday.... can't remember but I do know that I worked at home doing more felting of a face using white wool and this time tried to layer it up more to try and make it stiffer so hopefully that will work. I'm also making a form in the shape of a face. I used foam.. The first attempt of the foam didn't go as planned.. I bought it about a year ago and the foam didn't expand so a tip for my two followers... Keith and John!!!! don't use old expanding foam. On monday I bought some foam and was quite generous with the application so now I have a hugh head and have to try and make it into a shape of a normal head. At least I didn't make as much of a mess around the kitchen as I did on the first attempt.
Tuesday was great fun... Did life drawing which I really enjoyed and feel I learnt a lot even though my shoulder was killing me after it. Did a lot of printing that day and wasnt' happy at all with the results so I'm taking a break from printing for a few days to cool myself down and get my head around it.
Wednesday 17th .... Went to CCS which I must say didn't excite me as much as the other lectures. Went down to the main LIT Campus and found a great technician there who helped me get a A2 photocopy of a face done. Spent about an hour last friday trying to do it in clare St. , and couldn't get it working and no help from the technician there. He told me first years weren't allowed us the machine... Then went to 3D with Elaine and tool loads of copies of photographs of faces. Showed her one of the pieces I was working on and I'm trying to develop that by making longs rectaganol shapes with the possibility of putting the photos onto them... Took the night off toninght at home...

Urban enviornment
After doing attempting to do lots of drawings of the different ethnic faces in Limerick, I have done some printing which I really enjoyed some came out good but others were disasters. I'm going to try and post a few photos up.
I am now investigating faces with Felt. I took a plaster mould of my own face, using plaster of paris and one of Helen's today.. thanks Helen... and with those I'm going experiment with felt. I have already done one but I feel its a bit flimsey so going to try and see how I can present it a bit firmer...
This is the wool put on the face... up side down... sorry....
This is the wool felted. Dosn't look too good but it actually came out quite nice.. will put up the finished piece later!
This is the main woodblock..
The finished piece.. using black ink, yellow with a tinge of black to tone down the yellow and orange.
This is the first print.

urban envoirnment
I haven't spoken about MY CHAIR... Really enjoyed the process of doing it. It was fantastic and was really delighted with the finaly result. My inspiration was from the amazing Dominican Abbey in Kilmallock., well worth a visit if your ever passing that area. Fabulous space... So while the design was very simple I think it worked. I wanted the height and curvature on the back as a place of resting and privacy. I'll try and put some of the photos up but I'm having a real struggle at this. By the way I'm having a real struggle at getting on to this blog and using it ... Spent about a half hour today on it and lost all the images ... getting on the blog and then not getting on it..... but hopefully I'll have no more trouble with it.... here goes ... going to try and put up a few photos... No luck there....

Urban enviornment
Walking around Limerick it's amazing the different nationalities that are now living there. Lots of new exciting new shops also being opened by some of these people. This was one of the inspirations of why I choose to look at the new faces in Limerick. How many of us interact with the migrants in Limerick. On my first day out in the streets, I took photos of mostely guys, working with the County Council... they were mostly from Poland. Then as my courage increased on asking people if I could photo them, I got a great photograph of a Sudanese woman carrying her baby in a lovely colourful blanket. She's been here 7 months and was walking around Lr. Griffith St., I discovered this area has an a lot of Afican shops and of course the great East is East. I went into East is East where I photographed people from Afganistan and Pakistan.
